And while the low-slung and clutter-free look of this roadster gives the iconic lines a very modern appeal, they still didn't forget the correct vintage touches like the upright windshield and the whitewall tires. With barely over 3,500 miles on the car, the black paint remains slick enough to reflect the midnight neon Bucket Seats✔ AM/FM

It retains the open engine, open cockpit, and flat windshield that we love about the T-buckets, but the body has an overall streamlined execution that gives it more appeal. It's also the perfect shade so that the custom blue flames not only coordinate nicely, but also they instantly pop as they spread down the body. The dark blue metallic paint has plenty of gloss and shine to make sure the sunlight highlights the iconic curves of the rear end AM/FM

But since these are always a rare sight in the classic scene, it's also the perfect candidate for any build - from a factory original to a mopar hot rod. After all, dodge always produced less than ford and chevy. But more than just rarity, it has a style all its own. The tan paint was recently resprayed to give it a higher gloss finish. These d100s have a tough and blocky presence that starts with dual cowl hood and finishes with the step side bed that's ribbed for extra strength. This is a desirable long bed version, so there is plenty of work left in this dodge. That side-mounted spare looks like it hasn't left its mounting in a half-century, and we even believe it's original lumber beneath the plywood floor. Inside, the color scheme is continued on the door panel and headliner. And now it's joined by plenty of black elements. It starts with the vinyl bench seat that has the taut look of a recent investment. It's these little things that give this whole interior a great period-correct look and feel. And this correct presentation extends to under the hood, too. This is the original 225-cubic inch inline-six that this pickup was born with a half-century ago. The bold red block and cover against the tan engine bay is a real standout. And this one is complete right down to the factory sticker on the air topper. Slant six motors are great for durability and torque. The originality of this pickup even extends to the warranty card, owner's manual, and other paperwork.

2008 ford f-150 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. With the segment's only rear-hinged side access doors, the regular cab gives excellent recline space and an easy reach to everything dropped behind the seat. At the other end of the scale, premium models include two-tone leather seats, polished 22-inch wheels and other touches: within those extremes lies something for everyone.  2008 marks the first availability of an xl-grade supercrew with 5. 5- or 6. 5-foot bed: maximum people space with a work truck ethic. Detail changes for 2008 run the gamut from functional to decorative, the latter a wheels and stripes package for stx models, the former a standard tachometer for xl and stx with manual transmission, tire pressure monitors on the heavy-duty package, plus the availability of a cargo management system, remote start, telescoping towing mirrors, and a rearview camera (that does not require purchase of a navigation system).  with one of the deepest beds in the half-ton pickup segment, the f-150 has generous cargo volume out back and a maximum payload rating of 3,050 pounds. A foose edition f-150 designed by hot-rod master chip foose will be available as a late-2008 model. The base f-150 xl 17,345) is a short, regular cab two-wheel drive. Wheels are steel, the grille is black and bumpers painted, vinyl covers the floor and seats, and the audio is am/fm. However, it does have intermittent wipers, map lights, a 40/20/40 split bench front seat with driver lumbar adjustment, and on supercabs 23,440) air conditioning. Since it frequently adds other upgrades and a larger engine, 4wd adds almost $6,000 (and a v8) to the most basic example and $3,000 to the lowest-priced supercab.  stx models up the ante without going broke, with body-color front and rear bumpers and grille trim, air conditioning, cd player, and cloth upholstery. A 4x2 regular cab short bed starts at $21,050 and a 4x4 supercab flareside goes for $29,045; there is no stx supercrew.  central to the lineup, and sales, is the xlt. To an stx it adds chrome bumpers, black honeycomb grille, remote keyless entry, power mirrors/locks/windows, carpeting, auto headlamps, tinted windows, and better fabric for the 40/20/40 seat. Hefty rubber mats protect the carpet; other upgrades include a leather-wrapped wheel, unique instrument display, and sport cloth upholstery with driver and passenger lumbar support. Monotone paint includes the bumpers (gray with tow-tone paint), flares cover 18-inch aluminum wheels, and the door gets keypad entry. On regular cabs 24,105-30,645) the fx4 is $5,750 over the fx2 and there's no long-wheelbase fx4; on supercab and supercrew 28,700-35,445), the 4wd version is a $3,295 premium.  the lariat label is reserved for more luxurious, car-like interiors, and does not include regular cab or flareside models; retail prices range from $29,895-$35,595. Fancy bits include 18-inch aluminum wheels, power heated mirrors with signal repeaters, climate control, leather-trimmed seats and steering wheel, powered driver's seat, trip computer, light-faced gauges, and chrome and arizona beige trim.  for 2008, ford will build 5,000 lariat limited f-150s, replete with serial-number plates, spun-metal instrument cluster trim, two-tone leather cabin, color-matched grille and bumpers, and three-dimensional chrome bed side badging. Limited models are offered only as 139-inch wheelbase supercrews in two- 35,160) or all-wheel drive 38,160).  top tier among regular production models is the king ranch, with castano leather modeled after the saddles that roamed the texas ranch. Exterior trim is similar to lariats, with color-matching components and arizona beige accents. At this level, items such as heated power seats and power-folding mirrors are standard. And the 2008 ford f-150 shows the evolution of 70 years of function. Angular means easy to clean, easy to park and gives maximum inside volume for outside space. The f-150 is easily recognized in any trim level by the circular front lights within a rectangular housing, stepped front window ledge, opening rear doors on the regular cab, and the tall bed. For 2008, extendable dual-element towing mirrors bring the f-150 in line with the bigger super duty pickups, as well as the ram, titan, and tundra. Any cosmetic sacrifice is well worth the extra visibility with a trailer behind.  pillars between the doors may yield a blind spot for those who sit more rearward and everyone should appreciate the windshield pillar designed to help preserve forward vision. The flareside really is more stylish than the styleside bed, that which is essentially a box with some character lines in the sheetmetal, and more space within. The chrome harley badges are a bit much for some of us, but it drew many admiring looks. interiorford has all bases covered inside the f-150, with plenty of patterns, textures and finishes, including at least three different gauges clusters, and the choice of a 40/20/40 split-bench front seat or captain's chairs in many models. Captain's chairs on fx and lariat models, especially with power adjustment and the optional adjustable pedals, provide good driver positioning for virtually everyone. Finding it may take some time because the backrest angle adjustment is manual and the power controls are on the side of the seat with the door very close.

This example has been babied all its life, and so the bold paint still has a showroom shine. It's not hard to see why this ssr would end up a prized possession. With just 9,843 original miles, it's bone stock and ripe for stashing away for posterity. Now that over a decade has passed since production ended, we can really begin to appreciate how the ssr blended the iconic advance design pickups of the 40s and 50s with modern fender flairs and an aggressive stance. In fact, the deep factory gloss of the paint and the shine of the pristine chrome alloys will make some people swear this is a custom build. But while the appearance is quite retro, the features are quite modern. More corvette than pickup truck, the interior has sculpted leather bucket seats, a color-matched center console, and every luxury gm could dream up. Features include power seats, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, keyless entry, and a thundering bose am/fm/cd stereo system that fills the cockpit with sound at any speed. Touch a button, and the trick folding hardtop disappears behind the seats - making this the coolest open-air truck since the model a roadster pickup of the '30s. The safety features are modern, too, with everything from front and side airbags, to anti-lock brakes. In fact, it's really just an extremely spacious trunk that holds everything and is fun to show off. While all ssrs are v8-powered, not all were created equal. During the limited run, a later model like this received the 6. 0-liter ls2 v8. This numbers-matching, fuel-injected powerplant was shared with the corvette, and so the 390hp represented a 30% upgrade in power over the previous year. 2008 chevrolet hhr review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Retrowagen gets more performance. introductionthe chevrolet hhr is a car-based retro-wagon that celebrates its chevy heritage with styling inspired by the iconic 1949 suburban. Hhr stands for heritage high roof, a reference to the early high-roofed suburbans and panel trucks that inspired the design of the hhr.  based on the same platform as the chevrolet cobalt, the hhr was first launched as a 2006 model. The hhr competes most closely with the chrysler pt cruiser, but also with honda element, ford escape, and jeep liberty.  for 2008, the hhr lineup gets a new high-performance ss model.  we found the chevy hhr fun to drive. It isn't a sports car, but it's nimble and we were pleased with its acceleration. The hhr feels more responsive than its horsepower, torque, and transmission ratio numbers suggest. Plus, it gets decent fuel economy.  the hhr panel van features smooth, windowless side panels and rear cargo doors with no handles. The rear cargo doors open via an instrument panel button. While it’s more spartan inside and provides seating for only two, the panel best exemplifies the early suburban heritage.  the hhr ss is the most fun to drive, launching quickly off the line and offering sharp handling. On an autocross circuit, we found it handled like a sports car.  the hhr interior isn't as functional as we'd like, however. And the base cloth fabric left us wishing we'd ordered the optional leather.  the chevrolet hhr remains relatively unchanged for 2007 with the exception of slightly more powerful engines and a few additional new color choices. New exterior color options for 2007 include imperial blue metallic and golden teal metallic; a new interior color option is ebony. lineupthe 2008 chevy hhr comes in three distinctively different configurations: hhr, hhr panel, and the new hhr ss. It comes in several trim levels, including the base ls and two lt grades. The ss comes with a high-performance 2. 0-liter turbocharged engine.  the ls 16,515) comes with cloth upholstery, air conditioning, power windows and locks, and a substantial level of standard features and equipment. The lt 17,175) adds an mp3 player with a jack for an ipod, eight ways to adjust the driver's seat, and satin chrome trim.  the 2lt package 2,395) adds the 2. 4-liter ecotec engine, anti-lock brakes, traction control, fog lights, a 260-watt pioneer sound system with seven speakers, 17-inch aluminum wheels, sport-tuned suspension and bright chrome trim.  the hhr panel 2lt 20,850) comes with the satin chrome exterior package, sports suspension, 17-inch painted aluminum wheels. The pioneer sound system is optional. The base hhr panel ls 16,820) is equipped similarly to the five-passenger ls.  safety features include optional front and rear side-curtain airbags 395). Abs comes standard on the 2lt, and is optional for the ls and 1lt 400). Stabilitrak electronic stability control is now standard across the entire hhr model range. walkaroundwe like the retrospective styling treatment served up by the hhr across the model range. The closest comparison to the chevy hhr is the chrysler pt cruiser. Both fill a respective need in their individual camps.  the rounded nose of the hhr is not unlike chevy's ssr, which also reflects the brand's truck heritage. The hhr's fenders are well defined with flat side wheel well openings contrasting favorably with the vehicle's many curved, contemporary sculpted surfaces. Front and rear bumpers and fog lamps are integrated into seamless fascia, with integrated running boards offering another nostalgic touch. The flush glass all around, including the windshield is a nice touch, as are the headlights surrounded by body panels in old school fashion. The tail light treatment consists of two round vertically stacked lenses on each side. The large, prominent grille is chrome, (except on the ss model), and appears much like that of the 1949 suburban.  front and rear bumpers are molded from composite material, integrated as part of their respective fascia. It provides lots of room and functionality without being boxy. When viewed from a distance, the hhr looks larger than it really is. Examined closely, it's compact. The cargo doors open wide enabling cargo access from both sides of the vehicle, as well as from the rear lift gate. The cargo doors are smooth and don’t have external handles; they are opened via a dashboard release button or the remote keyless entry fob. The large, continuous area created by the windowless cargo doors and rear panels is ideal for business logos, advertising or personalization. Side visibility is obviously limited due to the solid sides without windows; one must rely primarily on mirrors for backing maneuvers. The smooth, windowless sides on the panel give it a cleaner, retro, more hot rod look than the standard models. The lack of windows adds security for contents inside.  the hhr ss sits 6 mm lower than it stable mates, but sports extended front and rear fascias that give it the appearance of riding much lower. The new front fascia features an air-dam design with integrated fog lights, and the chrome surround grille comes with mesh-style upper and lower grille inserts. The new rear fascia provides a cutout for single bright exhaust tip. New rocker moldings resemble accentuated running boards. Out back, a rear spoiler is mounted above rear glass. Body-color door handles, mirror caps and rear license plate surround, along with ss badging on the front doors and rear lift gate further differentiate the ss from its stable mates. interiorinside, the chevy hhr provides for the most part, comfortable and functional surroundings. Speaking of headroom, there isn't a lot of it, in spite of the high roof. Also, the door lock button is positioned so that it interferes in driving and resting one's left arm on the window sill, a traditional and nostalgic pose.  cubby storage is limited. There's a handy flip-up compartment on top of the dash and a small glovebox. The rear provides one cupholder and small door pockets. The rear cargo floor flips up to reveal a five-inch-deep tray useful for storage. The rear lift gate is one piece, and raises easily.  solid rear quarter panels are available in place of the windows on all five-passenger models (via a window delete option).  the hhr panel provides seating for two and a large, flat cargo floor, with tie-down points located strategically on the floor with available, floor mats that allow for easier movement of cargo. The hhr panel features a flat load floor featuring a rubberized floor that provides utility and functionality for commercial or lifestyle activities.  the hhr panel cargo area features a standard auxiliary power outlet, as well as a 40-amp auxiliary power connector to provide service for a variety of specialty equipment needs. Two large, storage compartments, with a lockable option, are located forward under the cargo floor (in place of the rear seats in the passenger models). The compartments offer security for things such as computer equipment, flashlights, service manuals and other valuables.  the hhr ss features a special interior with ss-embroidered sport seats with inserts, a specific gauge cluster, an a-pillar-mounted turbo boost gauge and a new shifter arrangement. Three interior color combinations are available: ebony, light gray and victory red. A special gm performance driver’s seat, providing added lateral support and spirited driving comfort is optional and we think it's a must. driving impressionthe 2. 4-liter ecotec (an upgrade that comes as part of the 2lt package) is an impressive and versatile engine. The torque peak figure at such high rpm suggests that the low-rpm pulling power might be weak, but quite to the contrary, it's not. We drive up a steep, slow hill every day, and the hhr plugged up the hill like a tractor, with no shifting-down or searching by the automatic transmission. This high-load, low-rpm driving is what many drivers demand.  transmission ratios have a lot to do with the efficient del. 2007 chrysler pt cruiser review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Retrowagon, and gangster convertible. introductionthe chrysler pt cruiser combines the retro look of late-'30s american iron with modern performance, efficiency and features. The pt cruiser comes in two body styles, a versatile five-door model and a not-so-versatile two-door convertible.  after a significant facelift for 2006, the 2007 chrysler pt cruiser remains relatively the same with a few additions to colors and features. New for 2007 are a few additional exterior colors and features, including a now-standard remote keyless entry on the base model and a standard console flood lamp on all models. The power liftgate comes standard for 2007.  the five-door model's tall body boasts lots of room for people and cargo. In fact, its interior volume and versatility compare well to a small suv. Yet the pt cruiser is small and easy to park.  it's also easy on gas. The lower-level models are competitively priced, and we think they make the most sense. Turbocharged models put fire under the hood, but they're pricey.  the pt cruiser convertible is one of the least expensive convertibles on the market. Its trunk is tiny and awkward, however; in fact, we can't think of a trunk that's less convenient than the one on the cruiser convertible.  the pt cruiser doesn't fit within existing automotive marketing segments, but competes on some levels with the chevy hhr, the scion xb, and the mini cooper. Like them, it is essentially a car: the pt cruiser is based on the dodge neon, a compact car noted for sprightly performance. So it drives like a car, though the handling is not as good. Cruiser is an appropriate name. lineupthe 2007 chrysler pt cruiser comes in two body styles: a five-door hatchback/wagon chrysler calls a sedan; and a two-door convertible. Both prices include automatic transmission; a manual gearbox is not available with this engine. The gt also comes with side-impact airbags, a power glass sunroof, and most of the limited's luxury goodies. Leather sport seats are also standard. The gt convertible 29,825) comes with all the limited and gt sedan goodies.  optional on all convertibles and on limited and gt sedans is a 368-watt boston acoustics premium sound system 695). Sirius satellite radio is optional on all models 195, including a one-year subscribtion). Gps navigation 1,100) is available on limited and gt; so is uconnect hands-free, in-vehicle communications 360), which uses bluetooth technology to link the user's cellular phone with the cruiser's stereo speakers. Limited sedans can be ordered with plastic woodgrain exterior accents 895). Many of the standard features on higher-line models are also available as options on the less expensive models.  safety features include front side-impact airbags, standard in gt and limited and optional 390) on the other models. Three-point safety harnesses are provided at all positions, including the rear center position, so be sure to wear them. The front belts have pyrotechnically charged tensioners, just like in luxury cars, to tighten the belts for the initial stages of an impact. The rear bench is equipped with child-seat tethers. walkaroundthe chrysler pt cruiser blends the retro look of a late-1930s or early 1940s american sedan with new-age styling cues such as dual-beam flush headlights and teardrop-shaped taillight lenses.  the look was refined beginning with the 2006 models, but not drastically changed. The horizontal-themed grille does not extend below the bumper as on older models and it's topped by a prominent chrysler eagle and flanked by gently scalloped headlamps. Round foglights frame a horizontal slot in the bumper. Around back, a body-color spoiler on the liftgate is said to improve aerodynamic efficiency.  in terms of exterior dimensions, the pt cruiser is quite compact. It's shorter in overall length than most compact sedans, but it's relatively tall. Measuring 63 inches from the pavement to the highest point of its roof, it's nearly as tall as a minivan. That height is a crucial element of the pt cruiser's design.  the design of the convertible is quite a bit different from that of the sedan. The convertible looks shorter than the sedan, but it isn't; maybe it's the single long door on each side that creates this illusion. It's lower, however, by almost three inches, which certainly alters the looks. But there's a lot more to it than that: close examination reveals that the windshield is raked more radically and uses a different a-pillar design.  with the top up, the convertible looks like a custom chopped-top hot rod. And it looks pretty cool. Drop the top and the gangstermobile turns into a chick car. With its top down, the pt cruiser convertible's high tail and integrated sport bar remind us of the old volkswagen cabrio. But where the vw's side windows sealed against its sport bar, the chrysler's windows seal against each other for a more modern convertible profile. Its slightly narrower and color-keyed sport bar sits behind the windows, inside the car, and is aerodynamically designed to minimize wind noise. A nice boot is provided that dresses up the appearance with the top down. interiorthe pt cruiser pulls its exterior styling themes into the cabin, although here, too, the retro theme is tempered a bit by a very modern-looking center stack that visually splits the vintage-styled dashboard.  the driver faces three white-faced gauges set in individual cylinders, with speedometer center, tachometer right, and fuel and water temperature left. Accessory switches are concentrated in the center panel, with radial-type climate control dials at the bottom. Window switches are high in the center stack, inconvenient for quick operation, forcing the driver to search for them. The door levers have a nice action, and the switches operate with good tactile feel, though they're not world class. The standard stereo sounds tinny; we haven't tried the boston accoustics system. Also, there's a separate set button for the station presets, fussier than simply holding the preset down.  a bonus of the cruiser's tall profile is its upright seating position, with a fairly high view ahead, somewhat like a sport-utility vehicle or minivan. The gt also features a leather wrapped steering wheel with satin-silver spokes, and bright accents on the pedals.  the center console incorporates a sliding armrest, replacing the seat-mounted armrests provided previously. The pt's console also includes a covered tray for concealing small items, a storage bin that holds six cds, a coin holder and fold-out cup holders for rear-seat coffee consumers. A cell-phone charger is optional.  roominess is a virtue in the cruiser. The sedan's 120. 5 cubic feet of interior volume is comparable to that of large cars such as the mercedes-benz s-class or lincoln town car, though it certainly doesn't have the ambience of those cars. Much of that space is a function o.

2006 chrysler pt cruiser review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The retrowagon gets a facelift. introductionthe 2006 chrysler pt cruiser features its first significant facelift in six years. Inside and out, the new look is best described as more modern, but not so much so as to spoil the pt's toy-hot-rod fun.  chrysler pt cruiser combines the retro look of late-'30s american iron with modern performance, efficiency and features. It doesn't fit within existing automotive marketing segments.  the pt cruiser is based on the dodge neon, a compact car noted for sprightly performance. It comes in two body styles, a versatile five-door model and a two-door convertible.  the five-door model's tall body boasts lots of room for people and cargo. In fact, its interior volume and versatility compare well to a small suv. Yet the pt cruiser is shorter in length than a neon, making it easy to park. The lower-level models are competitively priced, and we think they make the most sense.  pricier turbocharged models add fire under the hood. For 2006, the fire has been turned up to 230 horsepower in the gt model. A more affordable 180-horsepower turbo is also available.  the convertible is one of the least expensive on the market. The gt also comes with side-impact airbags, a power glass sunroof, and most of the limited's luxury goodies. Leather sport seats are also standard. The gt convertible 27,930) comes with all the limited and gt sedan goodies, and for '06 its 17-inch wheels are chrome-plated, just like the sedan's.  optional on all convertibles and on limited and gt sedans is a new boston acoustics premium sound system (replacing last year's infinity system), but retaining the same 368-watt peak output. Sirius satellite radio is optional on all models this year 195, including a one-year subscribtion). Gps navigation 1100) is available on limited and gt; so is uconnect hands-free, in-vehicle communications 360), which uses bluetooth technology to link the user's cellular phone with the cruiser's stereo speakers. Limited sedans can be ordered with plastic woodgrain exterior accents 895) for the vintage town & country look. Many of the standard features on higher-line models are also available as options on the less expensive models.  safety features include front side-impact airbags, standard in gt and limited and optional 390) on the other models. Seatbelts should always be worn, however, and the pt cruiser comes with three-point safety harnesses at all positions, including the rear center position. The front belts have pyrotechnically charged tensioners, just like in luxury cars, to tighten the belts for the initial stages of an impact. T. walkaroundthe chrysler pt cruiser blends the retro look of a late-1930's or early 1940's american sedan with new-age styling cues such as dual-beam flush headlights and teardrop-shaped taillight lenses.  the look has been refined for the 2006 models, but not drastically changed. Chrysler says the pt cruiser now has the face of chrysler, which seems to translate into a more horizontal-themed grille that no longer extends down below the bumper, topped by a more prominent chrysler eagle and flanked by gently scalloped headlamps. Round foglights now frame a horizontal slot in the bumper. Around back, a new body-color spoiler on the liftgate is said to improve aerodynamic efficiency.  in terms of exterior dimensions, the pt cruiser is quite compact. It's nearly 6 inches shorter than a neon. Yet with 63 inches from the pavement to the highest point of its roof, the cruiser sedan is also 7 inches taller than the neon, and nearly as tall as some minivans. That height is a crucial element of the pt cruiser's design.  the design of the convertible is quite a bit different from that of the sedan. The convertible looks shorter than the sedan, but isn't; maybe it's the single long door on each side that creates this illusion. It's certainly lower, by almost 3 inches, which certainly alters the looks. But there's a lot more to it than that: close examination reveals that the windshield is raked more radically and uses a different a-pillar design. With the top up, the convertible looks like a custom chopped-top hot rod. Pretty cool.  drop the top and the gangstermobile turns into a chick car. Less obvious improvements for 2006: all instruments are now bigger, the radio is mounted higher, the glovebox is larger, and the glovebox door is now damped.  the driver still faces three white-faced gauges set in individual cylinders, with speedometer center, tachometer right and fuel and water temperature left. The gt's silver-faced speedometer reads up to 140 mph, while the standard cruiser's speedo goes to 120. Window switches are still high in the center stack, inconvenient for quick operation, forcing the driver to search for them. The door levers have a nice action, and the switches operate with good tactile feel, though they're not world class. The standard stereo sounds tinny; we haven't tried the new boston accoustics system. Also, there's a separate set button for the station presets, fussier than simply holding the preset down.  a bonus of the cruiser's tall profile is its upright seating position, with a fairly high view ahead, somewhat like a sport-utility vehicle or minivan. The gt also features a leather wrapped steering wheel with satin-silver spokes, and bright accents on the pedals.  a redesigned center console now incorporates a sliding armrest, replacing the seat-mounted armrests provided previously. The new console also includes a covered tray for concealing small items, a storage bin that holds six cds, a new coin holder and fold-out cup holders for rear-seat coffee.

2009 chevrolet hhr review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Utility and efficiency with style. introductionthe chevrolet hhr is a car-based retro-wagon that celebrates its chevy heritage with styling inspired by the iconic 1949 suburban. Hhr stands for heritage high roof, a reference to the early high-roofed suburbans and panel wagons that inspired its design.  based on the same platform as the chevrolet cobalt, the hhr was first launched as a 2006 model. The hhr is similar in concept to the chrysler pt cruiser.  we found the chevy hhr fun to drive. It isn't a sports car, but it's nimble and we were pleased with its acceleration. The hhr feels more responsive than its horsepower, torque, and transmission ratio numbers suggest. Plus, it gets decent fuel economy.  the hhr panel van features smooth, windowless side panels and side cargo doors with no handles. The cargo doors open via an instrument panel button. While it's plainer inside and provides seating for only two, the panel best exemplifies the early suburban heritage.  the hhr ss is the most fun to drive of the hhr models, launching quickly off the line and offering sharp handling. On an autocross circuit, we found the ss model handled like a sports car.  the hhr interior isn't as functional as we'd like, however, and the base cloth fabric left us wishing we'd ordered the optional leather.  the 2009 hhr is unchanged in any major way over the previous model, but there are numerous detail changes and upgrades. Standard on all 2009 hhr models are xm satellite radio, anti-lock brakes, stabilitrak vehicle stability control system with traction control, and roof-rail side-curtain airbags. The 2. 2-liter engine delivers more power and better fuel economy for 2009, and there is e85 flexfuel capability on the 2. 2-liter and 2. 4-liter engines. Options for the ls include remote start, the automatic transmission 1,000), running boards, a spoiler, and a variety of other factory and dealer-installed features and accessories.  the hhr lt 20,720) adds remote start as standard, an eight-way power driver's seat, driver's lumbar support, and the availability of many more optional extras, including a bright chrome appearance package, which includes 16-inch chrome alloy wheels, and the sun and fun edition, which includes sunroof and the 16-inch wheels.  the hhr 2lt adds the lt equipment group 1,700), which includes the 2. 4-liter engine, 17-inch chrome alloy wheels, fog lamps, running boards, fe3 sport suspension, bluetooth connectivity, leather-wrapped steering wheel, auto-dimming mirror, and a pioneer audio system with seven speakers and 260 watts.  the hhr ss 24,815) adds the turbocharged engine, performance handling suspension, 18-inch polished alloy wheels, ss embroidered seats, a rear spoiler, and other items. Optional on the ss is the performance package 895).  the hhr panel comes in ls 19,030), lt 21,030), and ss 25,135) versions. Options and prices for the panel are the same as for the equivalent levels of the non-panel versions.  safety features include front airbags, front and rear side-curtain airbags, anti-lock brakes, stabilitrak electronic stability control with traction control, and tire-pressure monitoring. walkaroundwe like the retrospective styling of the chevy hhr. The closest comparison is the chrysler pt cruiser, another retro-styled utility vehicle with good fuel efficiency.  the rounded nose of the hhr is not unlike chevy's ssr, which also reflects the brand's truck heritage. The hhr's fenders are well defined, with flat side wheel-well openings contrasting favorably with the vehicle's many curved, contemporary sculpted surfaces. Front and rear bumpers and fog lamps are integrated into seamless fascia, with nostalgic integrated running boards. The flush glass all around, including the windshield, is a nice touch, as are the headlights surrounded by body panels in old school fashion. The taillamp treatment consists of two round vertically stacked lenses on each side. The cargo doors open wide, enabling cargo access from both sides of the vehicle, as well as from the rear liftgate. The cargo doors are smooth and don't have external handles; they are opened via a dashboard release button or the remote keyless entry fob. The lack of windows adds security for contents inside.  the hhr ss sits lower than its stable mates, but sports extended front and rear fascias that give it the appearance of riding much lower. The front fascia features an air-dam design with integrated fog lights, and the grille comes with mesh-style upper and lower grille inserts. The new rear fascia provides a cutout for a single bright exhaust tip. Rocker moldings somewhat resemble accentuated running boards. Out back, a rear spoiler is mounted above the rear glass. Body-color door handles, mirror caps and the rear license plate surround, along with ss badging on the front doors and liftgate, further differentiate the ss from the others. interiorinside, the chevy hhr provides, for the most part, comfortable and functional surroundings. Included are durable, easy-to-clean cargo surfaces, a front passenger seat that folds flat for more cargo space, a 60/40 split/fold-flat second-row seat, and a multi-position cargo package tray in the rear that provides cargo security. Speaking of headroom, there isn't a lot of it, in spite of the high roof. There's a handy flip-up compartment on top of the dash and a small glovebox. The rear provides one cupholder and small door pockets. The rear seat, split 60/40, folds flat very easily, as does the front passenger seat, and, since the 60-percent side of the rear seat is on the left, a long item like a ladder can be slipped in diagonally, a nice feature. The rear cargo floor flips up to reveal a five-inch-deep tray useful for storage. The rear liftgate is one piece and raises easily.  the hhr panel provides seating for two and a large, flat cargo floor with tie-down points to help hold things in place. The hhr panel cargo area features a standard auxiliary power outlet, as well as a 40-amp auxiliary power connector to provide service for a variety of specialty equipment needs. Two large storage compartments, with a lockable option, are located forward under the cargo floor (in place of the rear seats of the passenger models).

2004 chrysler pt cruiser review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. New turbos bring affordable power. introductionthe chrysler pt cruiser has become a familiar sight. The cruiser combines the retro looks of a late-1930's american sedan with modern styling and features. It made a big splash when it was introduced as a 2001 model. That was back in march 2000, and chrysler has been selling more than 135,000 of them a year. In spite of this, the pt cruiser still attracts attention. People are intrigued by the cruiser's difficult-to-define character. Chrysler says the pt cruiser is too cool to categorize. It boasts the interior volume of a sport-utility vehicle. Pull the rear seats out and it'll haul a load of building materials or a big tv box. Yet it's shorter in length than many compact cars, making it easy to park. It's also easy on gas.  adding to the fun is the driving experience. The cruiser is based on the dodge neon, a compact car noted for sprightly performance. New turbo models add fire under the hood. The gt (aka pt turbo) features a 220-horsepower engine that gives the cruiser a real boost. We also like affordability. On the downside, the pt cruiser has all the refinement of a compact car.  new features are available for the 2004 models to enhance the cruiser's sophistication. An optional power convenience group 705) adds remote keyless entry, automatic power central locking, and power exterior mirrors, and cruise control. The gt also comes with side-impact airbags and most of the limited edition's luxury goodies. A new option for 2004 is sirius satellite radio, which is offered on all models. The cost of the receiver 325) includes a one-year subscription. Also new for 2004 is uconnect, chrysler group's hands-free, in-vehicle communications system 360), which uses bluetooth technology to link the user's cellular phone with the cruiser's stereo speakers. Appearance packages include woodgrain exterior accents, the chrome accent group (expanded for 2004), and the chrome-and-leather dream cruiser 3. walkaroundthe chrysler pt cruiser blends the retro look of a late-1930's american sedan with new-age styling cues such as dual-beam flush headlights and teardrop-shaped taillight lenses. But that's not all there is to the pt cruiser. The shape is intriguing, but underneath is a modern platform with front-wheel drive.  by exterior dimensions, the pt cruiser is quite compact. It's nearly 6 inches shorter than a neon subcompact. Yet with 63 inches from pavement to the highest point of its roof, the cruiser is also 7 inches taller than the neon, and nearly as tall as some minivans. That height is a crucial element of the pt cruiser's design.  the gt is distinguished from the other models by its chrome exhaust tips, larger grille and air intakes, and a spoiler on its liftgate; however, the spoiler 150) is an option on the other models. interiorthe pt cruiser pulls its exterior styling themes into the cabin with painted inserts on its t-shaped symmetrical dashboard. The driver faces three white-faced gauges set in individual cylinders, with speedometer center, tachometer right and fuel and water temperature left. The gt's silver-faced speedometer reads up to 140 mph, while the standard cruiser's speedo goes to 110.  accessory switches are concentrated in the center panel, with radial-type climate control dials. The door levers have a nice action, and the switches operate with good tactile feel, though they're not world class. The stereo sounds tinny. Also, there's a separate set button for the station presets, fussier than simply holding the preset down.  a bonus of the cruiser's tall profile is its upright seating position, with a fairly high view ahead, somewhat like a sport-utility vehicle or minivan. The front seats in the three lower-line models have a reasonable amount of bolstering to keep driver and passenger from sliding side to side. The gt also features a chrome-spoked, leather wrapped steering wheel, and chrome pedals.  roominess is a virtue in the cruiser. Its 121. 5 cubic feet of interior volume is comparable to that of large cars such as the mercedes-benz s-class or lincoln town car. Much of that space is a function of the cruiser's height. The roof rises toward the rear like on a chopped-top hot rod.  to take advantage of this, the rear seat bottoms are higher than those in front, resulting in what what the industry calls theater seating. The front seats are mounted on tall boxes, leaving plenty of room for rear passengers to stretch their legs underneath. A six-foot, nine-inch passenger can fit comfortably in the front or rear seats.  chrysler claims the pt cruiser's cabin can be configured 26 different ways. This flexibility stems from three features: a 65/35 split rear bench that can be folded flat, tumbled forward or removed; a movable parcel shelf; and an available front passenger seat that folds flat. The rear seats are anchored with quick-release attachments for easy removal. Suitcase handles and steel wheels make it easier to stash them in the garage and move them about. The smaller seat weighs 35 pounds, but the larger section weighs a hefty 65 pounds. The cruiser can provide up to 64 cubic feet of cargo volume. Still, a mountain bike doesn't really fit without removing the front wheel, removing the rear seats, or both. Seatbelts should always be worn, however, and the pt cruiser comes with three-point safety harnesses at all positions, including the rear center position. The front belts have pyrotechnically charged tensioner. driving impressionthe pt cruiser is fun to drive. In essence, it's a tall, practical economy car, but the pt cruiser goes relatively quickly. The standard engine is rated at 150 horsepower and 165 pounds-feet of torque. This is enough power to propel.
